Tall women require an extra degree of attention in choosing clothing and fashion styles to flatter their figure. For example, if a tall woman wears skirts that are too short or too long, it makes their body look out of proportion. Therefore, it is important that the length of their skirts be at either the knee or just below knee level.

A tall woman can also play down the length of her torso by wearing blouses that fall over the pants and skirts, giving an illusion of a perfectly proportioned figure.

Some fashion experts also suggest that tall women should avoid pants with tapered legs, as they appear to lengthen the legs and accentuate the size of the hips and thighs. Wearing the same color of nylons as the skirt and shoe lengthens the leg, so if one wants to have the appearance of shorter legs, then one should wear a natural nylon color.

As a tall woman, I have struggled my whole life with fashion trends. Many of the fads look ridiculous on my tall stature. However, I love to look trendy without looking like I have tried too hard. Here are some of the current fashion trends for fall that I can incorporate to look great with my height.

1. Grey is the new black of the season. Grey pants, grey tall jeans or a grey shirt are the foundation pieces for any tall women’s fall wardrobe.

2. Texture is really hot this season. Get some large handbags and large purses with lots of texture. Some of my favorites are the new quilted handbags in bold colors, animal printed bags and belts and shiny items. Play up your accessories with lots of texture, but remember to keep the patterns big to balance out your tall proportions.

3. There are many women’s tall jeans on the market this fall. Two of the hottest trends are straight leg tall jeans and wide leg tall jeans. They look hot on just about any figure- whether you are tall and thin or a little on the heavy side. If you get these jeans in gray, you will be a “Tall Fashionista”.

4. Bold graphic prints are still in style for fall, which is great news for tall women. Graphic prints can be found everywhere and most of them are in large patterns. Large patterns are key, as they look great on tall women. Small patterns will make you look out of balance, so avoid them.

Footwear is estimated to have started its long history of human use during the Ice Age some 5 million years ago. Unkind weather conditions are said to have created the necessity for footwear.

Other evidences show that footwear came to use at the end of the Paleolithic Period, at about the same time the early humans learned the art of leather tanning.

Early pieces of footwear were made of wrappings, usually made of leather or dried grasses. Later on pieces were developed from an oval piece of leather which is bound by a piece of strong leather thongs. Sandals, which are the first crafted footwear, are the successors to these wrappings.

In Egyptian funeral chambers, paintings show the different stages in the preparation of leather and footwear. The images also show that in Egypt, footwear depicted power and class.

The Pharaohs’ sandals were distinguished by the turned up toes, a characteristic which is missing in the commoners’ footwear. Egyptian sandals were crafted using straw, papyrus, or palm fiber.Later on, Egyptian women adorned their footwear with precious stones and jewels.

Material evidences showed that the Greeks loved and took good care of their feet by using different footwear for different activities. Greek women began wearing sandals to signify their social class. Their footwear signified beauty, elegance, refinement, and extravagance.

It has been said that Greek women of bad reputation attracted men by wearing elevated sandals. These sandals create a “clacking” sound when the wearer moves, and this sound was considered as a symbolic flaunting of sexual charms.

In Mesopotamia, leather wrappings are tied to the feet by a strip of the same material.

Romans, on the other hand, created durable leather thongs so their legions can travel to places on foot. It is also believed that foot fetishes began with the Romans when Senator Lucius Vitellus frequently kissed the shoe of his mistress which was hidden in his tunic.

In Rome, footwear also exhibited social class. The consuls wore white shoes, the senators wore brown shoes, and the uniform footwear for the rest of the region was a short pair of boots that uncovered the toes.

But in all of these early civilizations, footwear indicated social status. Footwear consists of garments that are worn over the feet. They are worn mainly for protection and hygiene, but also for fashion and adornment.

Footwear items come from a wide range of materials including leather, rubber, canvass, wood, and plastic. But early pieces were made from available materials like straw, leather, cowhide, and grasses.

When footwear is assembled, the main components are adhesives, cushion, counterfort, heel, hook, insole, laces, sole, steel shank, tack, toe puff, tread, and welt. Generally, footwear is classified into: boots, industrial footwear, shoes, and sandals.

Boots are available as cowboy boots, galoshes, ski boots, thigh length boots, and so on. Industrial footwear includes plastic boots and rubber loafers which are used in laboratories, construction sites, and production lines.

Shoes include athletic shoes (or running shoes), climbing shoes, clogs, high heels, mary janes, moccasins, mules, loafers, tap shoes, and cross-training shoes. Sandals, on the other hand, include espadrilles, flip-flops or thongs, slide-ons, and slippers.

Footwear is considered an extension of one’s personality. Well-maintained footwear says things about the owner, with cleanliness as the most important concern. Although the intricacy of this craft may have been lost to modernization, their influences are still present in shoes today.

The moccasins worn in early times by people in cold countries are still being worn there, while the sandal patterned after the Egyptians’ creation is still frequently used in hotter countries.

As early as 50,000 years ago, our ancestral Homo sapiens used whatever was in their surroundings to shield themselves from the harsh climate. Anthropologists have unearthed human fossils from the Arctic Circle and saw evidence of men’s clothing made of fur and animal skin. In retrospect, in regions where the temperature was much warmer, evidences of men’s clothes made primarily, of leaves and grass were discovered. These were used to cover primitive man from the dust and heat. At that time, men’s clothing was nothing more that an ingenious invention borne from necessity.

As centuries passed though, men’s clothing assumed a new significance– it became a signature for social status. Emperors and Kings wore ornaments made of gold and rare jewels; nobles wore hats, while peasants adorned themselves with shells and plain-colored garments.

Many decades later man found the means to bridge his geographical gap with his neighbors. As a consequence, men’s clothing became as diverse as the cultures of this world. Chinese men wore court dresses; the Scottish wore tartans and kilts, Filipinos were seen in their barongs that were woven from pineapple fiber. Because of this diversity, trends emerged and fashion as an institution was born. Designers and fashion magazines all fanned the flames of what was essential and what was frowned at in men’s clothing. Men were sized up by how his pants were creased, the length of his tie, if his belt matched his loafers. Fundamental rules and classifications surfaced and they became codes that the modern man lived by. For instance, brown belts should never go with black shoes. This applied across all cultures that required shoes and belts on formal functions.

Amidst this celebration of diversity, the concept of haute couture emerged. Remarkably, this gave men’s fashion the tool for individual distinction. A separation from the rest not dictated by social status, rather, by preferences. Indeed, by having clothes designed and made especially for oneself emphasized one’s uniqueness.

Men’s clothing became a form of expression.

How a man saw himself was ultimately reflected by how he dressed. Everyday was one big costume party that showcased men’s clothing and its 50,000 years of history, give and take.

As life became more and more fast-paced, a new element was soon incorporated into men’s clothing– comfort. Looking good became as important as feeling good. Modern lifestyles required clothes that did not require special cleaning and tedious caring.

In response to this need and as a consequence of capitalism and trade, technology nurtured the discoveries and inventions of fabrics and methods of clothes making. Nylon, Polyester and Lycra are but a few synthetics that replaced natural fibers. Mainstream men’s clothing was mirrored by sports wear that breathed like skin, smart office wear that repelled water, and shoes that complimented a foot’s contour instead of the other way around. Men’s clothing in retail boomed.

In the transition between haute couture and retail, constants were defined. Today, these staple articles are as essential as to men’s clothing as they were when they were first created.

The suit

In business and formal functions, the suit has claimed stake as the most appropriate ensemble in the pool of men’s clothing. A man can never go wrong by showing up in a suit.

The blue jeans

Levi’s, Mossimo, and Lee are just some of the labels that have paved the way for what jeans are all about now and how they should be worn– deconstructed, faded, or acid-washed. From a workman’s essential to a casual staple, jeans have secured its place as an icon of men’s clothing.

The Cross Trainer

Nike and Adidas have cornered the market by ever-revolutionizing shoes that conquer even the testiest terrain and the most rigorous of training programs. These shoes are not an after-thought in men’s clothing, rather, the first that is thought of and for which, all other fitness apparel follows.

The T-Shirt

T-shirts were originally undergarments worn by laborers. A classic example of metamorphosing use of garments, by the end of World War I, it became a permanent trend for casual wear.

For the years to come, fashion will continue to evolve and will continue to be influenced by emerging technologies, trends and necessity, but utility and design will always be key elements in men’s clothing. The marriage of form and function in men’s clothing will never be divorced.

Wearing suitable footwear is important for every person. Rainy season is a time when footwear takes a beating. Trudging through the water, one always runs the risk of ruining good footwears and further developing foot odor as well. With the rain, all the dirt on the ground turns into mud. Shoes are not suitable footwear during those times. When wet weather arrives, some types of shoes should be kept in the closet until dry days come. Some type of black shoes will develop black stains on the feet or socks when they get wet. Flip-flop wears should also be avoided as they will smudge the clothes from behind. Suede shoes will not with stand moisture and its color will fade if kept under damp conditions.

Leather footwear turns green, if not taken care properly. Wet shoes should be dried properly before they are put in the cabinet. Damp leather is sensitive to heat, which will harden the shoes, and form cracks, when flexed. They should never be dried directly under the sunlight, as they will become as dry as sandpaper. Leather footwears should be wrapped in a nice way and should be put away during rainy seasons. If it is necessary to wear leather footwear during rainy season, feet should not be slipped in and out of the shoes directly, and must be opened only by the laces. Socks are a must; even if they get wet as they act as a barrier between the skin and the leather. Direct skin contact with leather footwear can cause bacterial growth.

Rainy footwears should be selected with straps so that they do not flap and cause long stripes of dirt on the back of the clothes. A sturdy pair of rubber boots or sports sandals would help. Wax polish is always good on shoes, as they repel water, and prevent shoe damage. Wet footwear should not be kept inside the closet, as the moisture in the footwear will soften the glue or rugby in the same. If they are not used for a long time, moisture may even cause cracks in the soles. A small packet of baking soda or charcoal will prevent moisture, odor and bacteria from accumulating in the shoes.
